WEAPONS

While there were many different types of troops within the 5th Ranger Battalion, the goal of this organization is to recreate the "average joe"; the rifleman. Therefore, it is required that each member purchase an M1 Rifle when joining the unit. Non-Commissioned Officers can use M1 Rifles as well as Thompsons and occasionally the M1 Carbine. Officers have the same expectations as NCO's.  However, truly, the M1 should remain the standard arm for most everyone in the unit, as it was by far the preferred firearm of the World War II Ranger, and could be seen being toted by everyone from the lowliest buck Private the the Lieutenant Colonel's commanding the entire Battalion.

The M3 Knife is required for all members of Able Company. This "trench knife" was issued to every member of the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions and saw use in either the M6 leather or M8 plastic scabbard. While not required, the less visible M2 Parachutist pocket knife was also issued to the entirety of the Battalion, as documented by A Co. Ranger James Gabaree, and often worn on a lanyard attached to the field jacket.

The last major point is regarding safety...safety is of the up most importance and is taken extremely serious in this unit!! Additionally, all local as well as federal laws apply to combat arms used, and NO Class 3 weapons are allowed within the unit. All weapons requiring papers must have them or the unit member will be asked to leave the event.

Required items will be highlighted in blue
